How does the Range Headlamp do in cold weather?

In short - pretty dang good.

The operating temps for Range Headlamps are -20C to +60C and 0C to +45C for recharging. The temp range is slightly narrower for recharging due to standard battery safety practices. If you find yourself needing to recharge in cold climates, we recommend putting your headlamp + powerbank in an internal pocket in your coat or vest as your own body heat can help charging performance.

Typically, rechargeable lithium-ion batteries perform better than alkalines in cold conditions. They deliver more consistent power, last longer, and are less likely to fail in freezing temperatures because their chemistry resists the voltage drop that slows alkaline batteries at low temperatures. This means lithium cells can keep delivering steady power even when it’s freezing, while alkaline batteries lose capacity much more quickly.

That said, if you anticipate being in EXTREMELY cold conditions for extended periods of time, we would recommend checking out our HeadLamp 800 Pro: the rear power source enables pass-thru charging, where you can connect the included 3 ft charging cord to an external battery pack that you can keep close to your body, which greatly improves runtimes and performance in extreme conditions.
